At Mayfield, we provide holistic care and education by promoting optimum opportunities for your child’s learning, wellbeing and development. The main aim of Mayfield House Kindergarten, is to meet the needs of the whole child and their family.
We have a strong emphasis on a traditional and natural childhood, maintaining good social values, encouraging enjoyment, and caring for nature. We also recognise the early years as a vital stage in developing a love of learning within children.
Environments
We place great importance on our outdoor facilities. Our outdoor environment includes: a treehouse, an extensive garden, vegetable plot, allotment and orchard (with chickens).
At Mayfield we have four departments: The Baby Room, Pumpkin House, Middle Room and Big Room. We find these help us to provide the most suitable play and learning environments, to further nurture and develop each child’s potential. Each department (except the Big Room) has its own peaceful sleep room to promote wellbeing.
Moreover, the children take part in creative outdoor play, health & wellbeing activities including yoga, and preparing & cooking of healthy food. There is also an extensive menu of fresh, healthy meals, often using our own organic produce.
Ethos, Values and Procedures
Our ethos and curriculum are influenced by many philosophies and teaching styles. These include: Froebel, Montessori, High Scope, and Reggio Emilio, and more recently through contributing to E.E.L. (The Effective Early Learning) Research Project. In addition, we have taken part in several films, produced by Worcestershire Education Authority to promote good practice.
Furthermore, to assist a smooth transition from home we encourage a settling in period for the child and their family. During this time we suggest that a parent, or someone close, remains with the child until they are settled and familiar with us. Please note there is no charge or set time for this period.
