At Mayfield House Kindergarten we have a range of indoor facilities to increase engagement.
We divide children into small groups, so that a child is in the most developmentally appropriate group, not always based on age.
At Mayfield, we aim for children to be in small groups, so that their experience is as homely as possible. We also believe this is important so they can form close emotional bonds with their staff and friends.
We conform to and exceed statutory guidance regarding adult to child ratios as we believe in the importance of helping each and every child to achieve their potential and more.
Ratios:
Under two’s: staff ratio 1:3, maximum 6 children, 2 groups of 3
2-3 year olds, staff ratio 1:4, maximum 12, 3 groups of 4
3 yrs up: Staff ratio 1:6 (statutory 1:8), maximum 12, 2 groups of 6
Indoor:
We believe it is important to have lots of different environment for the children to have access to.
At Mayfield there are fours rooms designated for play based developmental learning, these include:
- Baby Room (under 1’s)
- Pumpkin House (under 2’s)
- Middle room (age 18m – 3yrs)
- Big room (3yrs up)
We also have many other indoor facilities used by all, these include:
- Arts and creative room: allowing for ongoing and larger scale projects (and mess).
- Sensory Room: with equipment for massage, sensory light experiences, sound exploration, as well as a large interactive computer/ pad.
- Bathrooms and nappy changing rooms: with individual child size toilets and basins.
- Bedrooms: with tiny and medium sized beds generally for afternoon naps, but available if anyone just needs a rest.
- Kitchen: where all meals are prepared for and cooked on site daily.
All areas are extremely well equipped, with the highest quality equipment and toys, where possible we have an emphasis on wooden/ natural materials, and also open ended items to allow for high level creative thinking.
We are also passionate about the outdoors, click here to find out more about outdoor facilities, allotment and treehouse, available for the children to enjoy.
