At Mayfield we help children to grow and create their own personalities. We value the importance of creative early years childcare and nursery education. Our ethos is about providing a caring environment for children to grow and find love in the world around them.
Mental and Physical Growth
Our ethos promotes a healthy mental and physical development of the children within our care. We believe this is important because it provides an environment where the social, emotional, and educational needs, of all, are met and exceeded. At the nursery there are a variety of activities, including but not limited to: wellbeing (yoga and massage), academic (reading and craftwork), physical (swimming and forest visits) and social (music and free-play). We are privileged to help create the building blocks of a child’s life, and get to help nurture the children in our care to grow into wonderful adults.
At Mayfield growth links to a variety of different elements which enable a child to develop. Also, we grow our own produce to help children understand the importance of knowing where their food comes from. We are passionate about fresh, home-grown produce which helps to introduces children to a variety of foods.
Food
At Mayfield we are passionate about introducing children to all aspect of food included from farm to table. We find this encourages children to be interested in what they are eating. Furthermore, we also support the use of a diversity of foods. We find this plays a major role in introducing children to correct nutrition; thereby helping the children to develop good eating habits. A varied and nourishing diet contributes to the children’s learning potential and helps them to grow, physically and mentally, by giving them energy to move and learn. Research shows introducing children to healthy foods at a young age helps to improve concentration, increases the chances of life-long healthy choices, and sets the stage for a health relationship with food into adulthood.
British Medical Association, 2005
‘Good nutrition is important for all, especially for those younger than five years as these years are demanding for the developing child. They are the years in which children acquire many of the physical attributes and the social and psychological structures for life and learning’.
